I discovered in high school that I like to write, which came as a surprise because I had always disliked writing assignments. With this newfound knowledge I tried to explore writing as a hobby. The only way I had written anything before was for larger projects, writing assignments, and that was what I tried.

My first project was about the movie Spirited away. I had noticed that some side characters, the big baby and the faceless monster, went through their own story arcs parallel to Chihro’s. I took some notes and began planning the layout for the text, and then I got stuck. The scope and goals I had set up for myself were too large and I didn’t know how to fulfill them. After I realized that project was dead I tried again with some other topics but they all failed the same way.

Some time later I stumbled upon org-roam and the zettelkasten system. What org-roam and zettelkasten showed me was that I could write texts where the target audience was just myself. Org-roam has become a space where I can write about things I think about a lot without having to worry about form, style relevance or other aspects that are necessary for making a text appealing to others. The only thing I need to focus on is the substance. Even very short texts where I haven’t had much to say don’t feel useless because I can make each note part of the ever-growing web that is formed through links and backlinks. No piece of text there is truly alone.

Without the roadblocks I faced before I’ve been able to write quite a lot for myself. It’s been really good training. I think I’ve become both better and faster at articulating and expressing my thoughts in a way that reads nicely. Lately I’ve gotten more ideas for complete texts that aren’t meant just for me, which is why I’ve created this site. It is my dumping ground for such ideas that are completed. There won’t be any themes except for that it is something I find interesting. Hopefully there are some interesting topics for you too.
